We were excited to find our Afanc 2023 was picked by Matthew Jukes, wine writer and critic, as the star of the show at a recent Welsh Wine tasting event in London.
In a recent article in Money Week, Matthew describes it as:
“My headliner is a jaw-droppingly beautiful wine named after a mythical beast who is said to slink in the depths of Welsh mountain lakes. It is made from reichensteiner, schönberger and phoenix, and it reminds me of the classically dimensioned and uniquely beguiling rare French white style, Jurançon Sec. The stone fruit, wildflower, quince and jasmine tones are exhilarating, and the bitter bite of acidity and minerality on the finish brings the exuberant fruit to a dramatic conclusion.”
Word travelled quickly — orders came in from across the country, and we’ve now completely sold out! If you came our way looking to purchase a bottle we no longer have any available and unfortunately due to small yields in 2024, we weren’t able to release a new vintage this year.
